A donor has the right to:

  1. Know your organisation – including its history, achievements, governance, staff, financial situation and challenges
  2. Know how the funds will be used – for example, receiving regular reports about activities and use of money
  3. Transparency and access – all activities of an NPO, including financial, must be accessible
  4. Acknowledgement and recognition – for example, mention donors in your annual report or on your website
  5. Respect and confidentiality – do not give personal donor information to others without their permission
  6. Professional relationships – be honest
  7. Receive answers to questions – respond to donor queries on time
