The broader accountability framework of NPOs should also be explained to boards. It has been suggested, in terms of broader accountability framework, that NPOs are:

  • Upwardly accountable to donors.
  • Downwardly accountable to their beneficiaries.
  • Inwardly accountable to themselves.
  • Horizontally accountable to their peers.
